Johnny Stimson adds 'Sugar' to his already sweet career
Everyone has his or her answer to the paradox: “What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?” But if singer/songwriter Johnny Stimson is both, what does that mean? His music is spreading like wildfire with hundreds of thousands of listens on Soundcloud and his achievements stand tall as he is featured in top blogs and publications such as GRAMMY.com, Buzzworthy, and Nylon Magazine. The 25-year old pop artist began this snowball with his ability to top the Pop Chart on Hype Machine organically with four singles; and now is offering a new track called Sugar, which is as indulgent as it sounds
With harmonic melodies, R&B tones, and groove foundation, the R&B/Pop track seems to be too cool for any regular chart. "Got to get a little of your sugar... cause you taste so sweet" sings Stimson, luring his fanbase into a deeper trap of ear candy.
Somewhat apparent in his music, Stimson’s influences include contrasting artists like Prince and The Strokes; and Michael Jackson and The Beatles. An artist of ‘singles’, Stimson first delivered “Human Man” in 2013 - a funk-driven, electronic mix with soul vocals to his fans with great reception. He followed with consistent praise with songs “Daddy’s Money”, “SO.GOOD.”, and “Here We Go Again”. If his music is familiar to you, that is probably because you may have heard it featured in places such as ABC’s “Trophy Wife” or CW’s “The Vampire Diaries”. You may have also seen one of his performances at SXSW, Brooklyn Bowl (NYC), or the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
Brent Burns of GRAMMY.com recapped the SXSW performances, calling Stimson the “highlight of [his] entire SXSW experience”. ArjanWrites praises his “retro” but progressive sound, featuring him as a HOT NEW TALENT. And with his new single #Sugar making its debut today, that snowball of his looks a lot sweeter.
