Jhené Aiko sets her eyes on Sailing Souls debut; performs at McDonald’s Live Bytes
A lucky number of journalists & socialites, invited by TheBoombox.com and Def Jam Records, were afforded the pleasure of a live set performed by R&B's tiny powerhouse and Atrium/Def Jam recording artist Jhené Aiko for McDonald’s Live Bytes Sessions - coming behind a successful appearance at Brooklyn's Barclays Center as a guest on hip hop artist Drake's "Would You Like A Tour?", which picks up in Boston on October 30th. With refreshments in hand, the crowd anxiously awaited the singer's arrival and Jhené did not hold back as she kicked the night off with "My Mine", one of the many fan favorites she would perform as the night rolled on.
Her voice proved to be just as hypnotic and enticing as it sounds on wax, which is always a pleasant discovery to make. Jhené's mission in her music is to take her listeners to a place not of this world at least for a little while; she accomplishes this with songs like "Higher", "Space Jam" and "3:16AM" as with each note sung the audience was able to escape the present setting and find refuge in the gentle voice of the LA native.
With her playful side on full display, Jhené's performance of her latest release, "Bed Peace" - the video featuring Childish Gambino seen below - put everyone's vocal chords in full use and proved that her cult following is ready for the next step. "Bed Peace" is featured on "Sail Out", an EP that will release digitally on November 12th and is now available for pre-order.
Jhené Aiko wrapped up the performance portion of the show with "Stranger", a song that many immediately fell in love with after hearing it on 2011's "Sailing Souls" mixtape. The emotion behind each song performed translates in her every mannerism and makes for an astounding live experience - something everyone present in the room received firsthand. Jhene is quickly becoming an artist to watch as fans sit tight for the long-awaited debut album, "Souled Out".
