I 'Cry Myself To Sleep' Says James Cherry
There must be something in the musical water in the U.K.. To our never-ending satisfaction, those melodious isles seem capable of continually washing up outstanding new talent onto our musical shores. Case in point is 22 year-old James Cherry. Combining the urgent passion of his soulful vocal tone with grooves that you can move to and the pensive maturity of his broody lyricism, he says of his brand of 'aggressive soul' that 'when I write songs I always write in first person...everything is personal to me, and if you listen to the instrumentals they're quite happy and they're quite cool, but if you listen to the lyrics they're quite dark which is a contrast, and I think that's where the 'aggro-soul' comes into its own...you have the nice melodic sounds, but then the lyrics are what are quite aggressive'. Showcasing his musical ethos with 'Cry Myself To Sleep''s shuffle-inducing melancholy, he proves just why his 'Blame It On Our Youth' EP has found favor with the likes of BBC Introducing, Radio 1 and Spotify.
