Watch list: Hinds - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Andy Warhol's vision for The Velvet Underground has been reincarnated and split into four souls that collectively call themselves Hinds. These four souls belong to ladies in their early twenties who will kick your ass at beer pong while chain smoking cigarettes and dropping F-bombs. They somehow manage to do all of this while still being sweet chicas from Spain who play retro indie rock music and sing in English.
Hinds began in 2011 as a duo called Deers. After taking nearly a two year hiatus, they recorded two tracks called Bamboo and Trippy Gum, posting them on Bandcamp. Bamboo was well received by the music community, even getting a nod from Patrick Carney (The Black Keys) on his monthly SiriusXM podcast called Serious Boredom. Carney's show compiles a monthly playlist promoting indie rock bands. On this show, he boldly identified Bamboo as the "song of the year". Shortly after the success of these singles, the duo turned into a foursome, changed their name to Hinds, and began playing as many gigs as they could - including a mini European tour and an impressive 16 shows during this year's SXSW.
Hinds has managed to sell out shows with only seven songs recorded. They even released a cheeky The Very Best of Hinds So Far compilation on Spotify. In their video for Chili Town, they pass around 40's while singing lyrics like "I am stealing your cigars because they're closer than mine......I am flirting with this guy just to pretend I'm fine".
These girls openly discuss the fact that they're still learning how to write music and play their instruments. They just want to have fun and it creates one hell of a show - a show you want to keep watching.
Hinds is about to begin their North American tour and their debut album will be out in early 2016.
