Hear The Abstractions of MICHL's Self-Titled EP And You'll Be Instantly Hooked
MICHL is a name you shouldn't forget. Today he's released his debut, self titled EP and it will bring you nothing but instant gratification. Innovative and imaginative artistry ooze out of this artist, and the new project defines his signature sound that is executed in a dreamy and attentive fashion. It can be categorized as an easy, smooth listen yet filled with production complexities that still captivate you and make you want to listen over and over again, finding the subtle intricacies within the atmospheric soundscape. Not to mention, we're still unsure of what he looks like. The incognito approach to his brand assists in being fully present in the music and the music itself. After listening to only six tracks, you'll be fully convinced -- Trust us, he's been on our Watch List for some time...
Each track is unique yet related to the other. There is a perfect continuity within the EP, but sheer detail and originality in every single. The opening track, "Kill Our Way To Heaven," starts your journey in a rather wavy context, and Michl's vocals are highly distinct from the first listen. His hiccuping abstractions and crestfallen production choices are the perfect appetizer for the rest of the EP. It's a crestfallen start, yet beautiful and serene. A very Nocturnal approach -- sensitive and comfortable with the darkness.
Things get more emotionally invested in tracks "Tell Me The Same." An elegant piano is used, while Michl sings of a charming plea. The lyrics skim over a love that is honored but still dissatisfied. Guiding the story is a deep bass and hypnotic rhythm that set the tone for the subject matter. "Broken Roots" is more of a digestible track, keeping a steady been with an ambient chord progression behind it. It is his airy yet passionate vocals that make this music so interesting - it is as effortless as it is detail oriented.
"Die Trying" and "When You Loved Me Least" were previously released as project teasers, and certainly for a good reason. Hauntingly emotional and highly artistic, the EP comes together to really bring a fresh sound to the table. He's already racked up over a million plays on Spotify, and it's sure to keep climbing as the word spreads.
