Having an Ear Crush on LEISURE
I am pursing my lips and tapping the foot of my chair, as should you, to New Zealand’s collective LEISURE. Thoughts evolve from their cover art of a hand wrapping a wineglass. Imaginatively, I am sprawled over a pink velvet loveseat next to a fireplace, modeling distant facial features full of aplomb while trying to get over the last sunken love. I might’ve lost some of my soul in that deferred dream, but the soul immediately comes back when I hear a tasteful, vibe-y song like “All Over You” and “Got It Bad.” The bass and echoing vocals are so damn smooth and sweet like an ice cream swirl. Similar textures brought to mind are Glass Animals, Kindness, and even Tame Impala’s Currents. And I know I’m not the only one with an ear crush either; Bill Burr, a famous comedian once featured them in his podcasts. So here’s to LEISURE, making the kinds of tunes that make you feel bad and sexy without doing anything at all. Clink.
