Halsey Takes Fans to 'Badlands' in New Album
Halsey, 20 years old, from New Jersey, also known as Ashley Frangipane, is not your average pop singer, who comes off as a heartbroken, innocent sweetheart. Halsey is a rather outspoken artist. Fans describe her music style as “haunting” and “romantic.” No doubt, this woman is mystique. The debut album, Badlands (via iTunes) will be released August 28. Halsey describes Badlands as being “trapped” in your mind. She encourages her fans to do the same.
Castle is a catchy pop tune, with a touch of church choir, it is slightly haunting and mysterious. Colors depicts the couples who bleed for the ones they love, blue and grey, the colors which represent sadness. Coming Down is a dark, mysterious tune, with a marching beat that flows along with the acoustic guitar. Perhaps love is embedded in our souls much more than we think, similar to “religion.” “I've got a lover a love like religion. I'm such a fool for sacrifice.” Roman Holiday is the cheeriest song on the album, which reminds you of the “sunlight.” Young God starts off a dark, suspicious tune. With the slow synth, you’ll feel like you’re lost in. “Control” and “Haunting” have the feel of science-fiction, horror film. “Ghost” and “Hold Me Down” are catchy and electric, with a beat that makes you want to snap your fingers. “Drive” is a sweet, pop tune, which will remind you of your teenage years, under the California sky. “California never felt like home to me, until I’ve had you on the open road.” “New Americana” is a fun tune that will leave you wide-eyed, as Halsey leaves no room for a filtered mouth. She agrees that in American society, we are all “High on legal marijuana, raised on Biggie and Nirvana.” There’s no doubt this album will leave you feeling lost in the wonderful world of Badlands.
