GRAMMYS - 4 Remixes That Should Have Been Nominated Instead
2) ODESZA - "Say My Name (feat. Zara)"
Current Remix Nom: RAC
Should Have Gone To: Jai Wolf
It’s a shame that the Grammy’s are such a popularity contest. There are so many quality producers out there that aren’t getting the exposure they deserve. ODESZA deserves credit for curating an absolutely massive collection of remixes for their debut album, and it’s wonderful that the Grammys recognized at least one of these offerings. What’s puzzling is why they decided to go with the RAC remix. It’s one of the weaker of the 12 takes on the album, meandering not very far from the tone of the original and not adding or reinterpreting much to make it that much more interesting.
Jai Wolf on the other hand continues his hot streak of productions with his spin on the original. Pulling from the futuristic tropical sounds we’ve grown accustomed to hear from him in his fantastic mixes, he delivers with a superbly laid back mix that to me is above and beyond more interesting than RAC’s.
Honorable Mention: Grant Bowtie
An entry to the ThisSongIsSick.com remix contest, Grant’s take was an immediate fan favorite. Cascading synths hoist the song to new heights that not many other remixers can manage. It’s too bad that he didn’t win the contest, but it’s great that this young, capable producer was able to get his name out there thanks to the contest.
