'Get With' The Damn Truth's Rockin' Acoustic Grit
There is nothing that can quicken the musical pulse quite like the raw, uninhibited energy and primal swagger of good old fashioned rock: think the first time you pressed play on Zeppelin or 'Appetite For Destruction'. So it was invigorating for us last year to come across Canadian rockers The Damn Truth and their no-holds-barred brand of raucously passionate fret-shredding and drum pounding. Showcasing the irrepressible fire and urgency of a carefully honed rock sensibility that had seen them go from cover band to charting on Montreal commercial radio, the band had our attention from the opening riffs of their standout single, 'Get With You'. It is, however, one thing for a rock band to have cultivated a winning sound, but where real rock and roll magic happens is when that sound is led by a truly incredible singer. And in Lee-La Baum, that is exactly what The Damn Truth have. Throat-shreddingly gritty and animated by a ferocious, from-the-depths-of-her-soul abandon, her remarkable voice powers the band with a stunningly Joplin-esque intensity, as she demonstrates here with an arresting acoustic performance of the single for Bandwagon.
