Fall For The Haunting Sensitivity Of THEA
You know that feeling?. That spontaneous, unbidden frisson of excitement that you feel when you hear a genuinely distinctive voice for the first time? Thanks to Filipino singer Thea Pitogo, just such a feeling prickled a merry dance across the nape of our neck recently. Lead singer of the Davao City-based indie-folk band THEA, Pitogo possesses a truly unique voice that is as emotionally affecting in its sensitivity as it is compellingly fascinating in its idiosyncratic euphony. Shot through with a raw, rasp-flecked edge that lends a maturely inflected poise to the haunting poignance of her ethereally vulnerable vocal tone, Pitogo can break your heart with yearning shades of emotion while drawing your admiration with the tempered gravitas of a defiant exclamation. Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Rey Charles, Simon and Garfunkel, Mumford and Sons, Bon Iver, Ed Sheeran and Likke Li, Pitogo made the shift from solo artist to lead singer when she joined with fellow Davao musicians to form indie-folk outfit 'Thea Pitogo', now just THEA. Releasing the 'Love More' EP in 2014, the band gained recognition in the Philippines with the song 'Stole My Heart', and recently followed up with the 'Wise And Wiser' EP.
