Erik Hassle Makes Your Heartbreak Pain a Little ‘Smaller’
Can heartbreak be catchy? Apparently so with Erik Hassle’s new song “Smaller” where he flips the upbeat saying of “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” into something more achingly real, “what doesn’t kill you makes you smaller.” The mismatch of a defeated-sounding Hassle on top of an undeniably happy tempo continues his creative spin on a common trope and makes “Smaller” boppy enough to warm up, but not cure, our winter blues.
"We were staying at an hotel with a studio in the penthouse. We had late night writing sessions and a lot of early club-mornings, and ‘Smaller’ was actually the first song we wrote there. ‘Smaller’ is about a state we were both in at the time, so it’s a very personal song for us. Welcome into the head of Hassle/Ledinsky!"
