Emeli Sandé and Yuna grace the stage at the SOLD OUT show at Music Hall of Williamsburg
The night started off with The Fader Label's artist Yuna , who celebrated her first U.S. self-titled release by opening for Emeli Sandé Tuesday Night (April 24th) at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Her light and airy voice paired with clever wordplay made for a delightful set where she performed songs like "Island", "Remember My Name" and "Decorate". It wasn't difficult, but by the time she'd prepped the audience for her last song, Yuna won over the crowd who were especially enthusiastic about her latest single "Live Your Life" - produced by the great Pharrell Williams.
Next up on stage was the songstress Emeli Sandé. The second coming of the overseas music invasion is in full effect and one of its most promising artists shone her bright light. Emeli Sandé's storyteller style of lyricism and soul-stirring tone has earned her the adoration of fans from all over and the reception she received from the Brooklyn audience was phenomenal for an artist who is just starting off stateside. Starting her set off with the single that earned her recognition in America, "Heaven" was a great introduction to anyone present who may not have been familiar previously.
Throughout the forty-five minute set, Emeli knocked us all out with her powerhouse vocals and sweet personality. Telling the story of how she wound up opening for Coldplay during the UK leg of their world tour led into Emeli and her acoustic band performing their rendition of the group's hit, "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall"; the upbeat and fun production of her vice-endorsing track, "Daddy", got the house moving and fans were ecstatic all the way to the end when she performed her current U.K. single, "My Kind Of Love". The Music Hall of Williamsburg was fortunate to have embodied so much appreciation for Emeli's immense talent that they earned themselves an encore in "Maybe", a mournful tune that explores the options two people have when a relationship has come to the end of the line.
Emeli Sandé will grace America with her debut album, Our Version Of Events, on June 5th; it is a music must-have, so make sure you support when it hits stores.
