The Most Distinguished At Essence Festival 2015
The Main Stage was for the veterans. The top tier of R&B and Soul who have proven themselves over and over including icons like Usher, Mary J. Blige, and India.Arie. The stadium was packed and the crowd reciprocated the energy exuded by these experts. Charlie Wilson had a set that not only gave us life with an epic vocal delivery, but also had us dancing to an electrified band and upbeat covers.
An inspired collaboration of Hip Hop and R&B, Floetry is comprised of UK natives Marsha Ambrosius and Natalie Stewart. The Songstress and the Floacist as they are colloquially called are mostly identified by their sensuous R&B standard "Say Yes". But under during their combined time, they have also written for top artists such as Jill Scott and Bilal, with Marsha even writing "Butterflies" for the late Michael Jackson. After parting their ways, Floetry reunited their split fandoms and gave us their classic mix of soul.
Where has she been?! You would think after five Grammy awards and multiple platinum albums, the rapper/producer/singer would have contributed enough to music. But after Superbowl 2015, Missy Elliott reminded us what we were missing all along. Starting out with partner and fellow mega-producer Timbaland, Missy has proven herself a hitmaker for artists such Ciara and Monica and had a great impact on the late Aaliyah's budding career. After a nearly decade-long hiatus, Missy is performed her classics from newer stuff like "Get Ur Freak On" and the classic Missy such as "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)". With DJ JustDizle spinning, this was definitely a show you didn't want to miss!
