Daniel Caesar Delights With Two Varietal New Tracks
Daniel Caesar is a R&B/Soul force with talent aimed to put you in some sort of mood. A few days ago Caesar put out two singles "Get You" and "Japanese Denim". Both are impressively skillful and memorable on their own, but each feel like two very different stories being told based on stylistic musical decisions.
"Get You" w/ Kali Uchis
"Get You" begins as an ambient mind-wandering induction that falls into the smooth beat. Daniel Caesar's vocals lead a love song about a certain someone he is so grateful for and never wants to let go. Then, surprisingly, at the very end Kali Uchis comes in to add a response to Caesar. In this context, Uchis could clearly be seen as playing character the whole song is about.
Beginning with an incredibly slow tempo you know the vibe of "Japanese Denim" is going to be one that is moody but passionate. The soul and jazz elements in this song are so very present and overall the track is defined by slow buildups to grand anthemic moments that showcase the instrumental talent. With everything in the background Caesar still has room to belt out impressive notes with his vocals.
If you're in NYC Caesar has an upcoming show with Sabrina Claudio:
