Why Brooklyn's 2016 Northside Festival is a Hub For Discovery
There's a Brooklyn-based music & arts festival you might not know about, and it's coming next week. The 6-day run, known as Northside Festival, is packed with an eclectic mix of musicians from all around the nation, highlighting overlooked and underground artistry for the opportunity of major discovery. That's what we're all about here, and we're happy to give you the lo down on who is performing this year and who you shouldn't miss. There's certainly some recognizable acts you're sure to see, while additionally hosting talent you'll be happy you stumbled upon. This year's event takes place June 6-12.

Diet Cig
Why you should see them?
They're great live, call themselves "slop pop" and have made HUGE moves over the past few years, stunning SXSW and taking the road by storm. You've likely seen this name everywhere and for a great reason.
When they're playing?
June 10 -- 11:45 -- Baby's All Right
Why you should see them?
They're an all-female rock quartet from Madrid who have, quite frankly, blown up. Their hardcore yet adorable aesthetic is what makes people fall in love with them -- simply irresistible. Their sound blends so many different flavors, producing something that is quite unique (and they put on a killer show!)

June 12 -- 6:30 -- McCarren Park
A Deer A Horse
Why you should see them?
Simple and poetic rock trio. We just discovered them and the vibe is very palatable.
When they're playing?
June 12 -- 9:30 -- Muchmore's
And The Kids
Why you should see them?
Critically acclaimed indie pop band. Their new record comes out on June 3, so claiming a sense of knowing for them early is certainly recommended. These guys are going to go far.
When they're playing?
June 11 -- 9:15 -- Knitting Factory
Bad History Month
Why you should see them?
This band has some really interesting songwriting that sticks out to us. Mad inspiration!
When they're playing?
June 11 -- 10:45 -- Shea Stadium
Oddisee
Why you should see them?
He's an absolute guru of his craft. Just released The Odd Tape and completely solidified our fascination. Instrumentally brilliant, this will be one of the best shows of the week, guaranteed.
When they're playing?
June 12 -- 9:30 -- Brooklyn Bowl
Benny Sings
Why you should see them?
Soul mixed with interesting electronica vibes. His most recent release on Soundcloud ("The Beach House" released one month ago) really hit us. Also his new album comes out in November, which means a chance to spark interest with new material on the way!
When they're playing?
June 11 -- 3:00 -- Lyft Stage at Williamsburg Walks
Bent Denim
Why you should see them?
Holy crap, these guys make great music. Beautiful bedroom rock that they collaborated on via email due to their country-wide separation. Check out the song "Good Night's Sleep" and read the lyrics as you listen. Beautiful.

June 11 -- 9:00 -- Muchmore's
Blue Crime
Why you should see them?
This Amsterdam-based group doesn't have any new music out, but something about their sound hits us so if you happen to pass by and see them play I'd recommend sticking around for a bit.
When they're playing?
June 10 -- 8:15 -- Palisades
Color Tongue
Why you should see them?
A Brooklyn-based garage psych-pop band that put on a CRAZY performance. Their members dress crazy and often jump off stage to rock out and steal your drinks. Their energy is crazy high and their musicianship is extraordinary. Highly recommended.
