BJ The Chicago Kid closes his album on the funkiest note possible...
Play it from the top.
Last Friday, BJ The Chicago Kid released his highly-anticipated debut album, In My Mind. Filled with tunes of all sorts, this artist has proven his ability to pull from different genres to create his own musical masterpiece.
Formerly, BJ was involved with contemporary gospel stars and back up for acts like Mary Mary. He then gained the recognition he deserved and proceeded to appear on noteworthy projects like Stevie Wonder's "A Time to Love" and wrote for a good handful of talent like Lalah Hathaway, Crystal Aikin, Shirley Ceasar and Kindred the Family Soul. It was then that his power moves were to be taken to the next level, and solo success started to really kick off in 2012.
Now, a 15-track project has been released under his name, featuring collaborators such as Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Eric Ingram and Big K.R.I.T., just to name a few. In My Mind shows many colors and flavors of the Chi-town artist, but we've pulled our favorite.
"Turnin Me Up" is a funk-infused, audial soul food with a tight percussion groove and dirty bass lines. Layered on top is the sultry, smooth vocals from BJ that pair with harmonies that take you to another time. The track is the last on the album, closing on the best note possible (literally....) We can't stop playing this one -- jam with us.
