Do you have anything written from when you were a child?
I don’t have any songs written from when I was a kid, because I didn’t really know what I was talking about back then, so nothing really made sense to me [Laughs].
Do you feel that you were destined to move to Los Angeles?
I definitely feel I was destined to move to L.A. I love California, and I’ve always wanted to move there. There’s just so much you can do. I love the idea of going to the beach or just sitting outside in Beverly Hills drinking coffee.
Surrounded by the entertainment business, did that push you to become an artist?
Yeah, I definitely think moving to LA has changed my life, because everything's here, so you can say it's motivated me in some way.
You said you were a shy performer, growing up. Is that true?
Yes, I was very shy. I was terrified when I first started singing, but I grew out of that the more I performed on stage.
Do you believe it’s important for future generations of music to recognize older generations of music?
I definitely agree that it’s important, because you have to learn about the impacts artists have on each other. You need to learn about their style, background, and other elements of music.
So, where do you get your taste in music?
When I was younger, I just listened to the radio a lot. I get a little taste in music from my dad as well.
You’re kind of an old soul, yourself, as an Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Timbaland, and Missy Elliot fan.
I love Aaliyah! I’ve always wanted to be her when I was kid. I used to dress like her. I thought I was her [laughs]! She’s definitely been an inspiration to me as an artist. Timbaland is also one of my favorite producers, and he's the best. I also love Missy Elliot, and everything she does. Her videos are so crazy, and she’s so creative! I love an artist who can think outside of the box.
