5 SPOT: Five Thoughts While Listening To The "So Bright" EP By Sam Wills
Up-and-coming talent Sam Wills has released a debut EP today, titled So Bright. Here are 5 actual, real-time thoughts that crossed our minds while listening to the EP for the first time:
1. “Woah, this guy’s got a voice.”
With an impressive range, Sam Wills seems to have total control over which specific notes he's aiming for while singing a melody. It never comes off as over the top when he goes on quick run of notes vocally either. His soul, R&B-influenced style makes us picture him doing a song with an artist such as Justin Timberlake one day. On a similar note, with songs like "Electrified" or "So Bright," we can see a ton of people learning Sam's lyrics if either were to be played on the radio.
2. “This makes me want to have a night on the town.”
The instrumentation is highly focused around the use of synths and keyboards. The music seemed to instantly chill us out and we caught our minds wandering in only good thoughts. Sam Wills' music seems to remind each listener that life is good and we should all just have some fun. We can also picture the songs being played at a small party with friends or even by a DJ in a club.
3. “This is debut music done right.”
In our opinion, too many artists rush to put out music and shoot themselves in the foot by releasing a poorly recorded album or EP. This is definitely not the case for Sam Wills. This piece of musical creation is well constructed, clear, and beautifully mixed. It sounds to be made by professionals rather than amateurs. Smart.
4. “I need to see this live.”
We can just imagine every Sam Wills show being a total dance party. His music makes it way too hard to resist the urge to at least bob your head to the beat. In the next few years we can image the crowds for Sam Wills growing drastically from small venues to arenas.
5. “How is Sam Wills not famous?”
Facebook likes aren't a measure of fame or success but Sam Wills has around 2,000. That number is astonishing to us because he clearly deserves that number times 10 or perhaps 100, for sure. We say help Sam out and show the So Bright EP to your best friend, your co workers, or even your mum.
